Resurfacing & Hard Standing
Our work on Tarbert Fire Station really illustrated DAMM’s capabilities as a ‘one stop shop’ solution for clients. At Tarbert, the premise of the project was to upgrade the drainage system at the fire station, and install a new tarmac service yard for them.
The drainage side of the job involved the installation of a fuel interceptor. This was a SEEPA requirement to ensure there was no contaminated water travelling from the fire station to the nearby public working harbour. Obviously, when fire tenders are being re-fuelled there is a risk of fuel spillage. (In any job, it’s important to take into account the surrounding area’s buildings/environment, and how these factors may be impacted by any construction work.)
We upgraded the hard landscaping of Tarbert fire station’s service yard by creating new kerb lines and installing aco-drains, new paving slabs, and decorative chips. Additionally, we also supplied and laid a new tarmac surface course. This gave the fire tender a new smooth running course for access and egress. Our DAMM civils department really enjoyed working on this particular construction project – in partnership with SFRS & Robertson’s FM – due to the technical challenges it presented. Tarbert Fire Station is situated essentially on a rock face. This hard terrain made it extremely difficult to excavate down to the desired level for drainage installation. The entrance and exit to the fire station is also relatively tight space-wise, so our DAMM team worked within the confines of a restrictive area throughout the project. Overcoming these construction obstacles was ultimately very satisfying, and our client was delighted with the end result. We look forward to assisting Tarbert Fire Station with their essential, life-saving work in the future.
